After two years of incremental, mostly surface-level updates, Fortnite has been completely overhauled. After a black hole shut down the game for two whole days the game is back with a new map, new abilities, new skins and more. Today, we’re going to break down exactly what has been added and taken away.
The change that people are most worked up about is fishing. Even though it only has a peripheral effect on the actual gameplay, it’s a fun little diversion that will lighten the often tense mood of a Battle Royale. More importantly, the game has added new healing abilities in the form of the bandage bazooka, which is exactly what it sounds like. Epic has also made it possible to pick up downed teammates, put them on your shoulders and carry them out of harm’s way. There are also some exciting new aquatic abilities, like swimming. You can front crawl, dolphin dive and shoot under water. And if swimming is too slow, you can now jump into a jet-fuelled boat and whip around the winding rivers of the new map, shooting rockets at anyone or anything that gets in your way.
There are also, of course, the cosmetics. The new skins, wraps, back bling, gliders and harvesting tools are mostly nautical in theme. Some of them are medical, others are fashionable and some are a little harder to describe. You’ll just have to see for yourself.
